Grey Import & Parallel Import Vehicle Finance
Most lenders won't touch a grey import. We work with specialist lenders who will — and we know which ones are right for your vehicle.
Start an enquiryWhy grey imports are different
A grey import — also called a parallel import — is a vehicle brought into Australia outside the manufacturer's official distribution channel. This includes Japanese domestic market (JDM) vehicles, European-spec cars, and vehicles imported under the SEVS (Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme) or RAW (Register of Approved Vehicles) compliance pathways.
Most mainstream lenders decline grey imports outright, or apply restrictions that make finance impractical. The reasons vary: unfamiliarity with the compliance process, difficulty valuing the vehicle, or internal policy. The result is the same — standard lenders are often not the answer.
We work with a panel of specialist lenders who understand the grey import market, are comfortable with compliance-plated vehicles, and can assess applications that mainstream lenders won't consider.

What lenders look at for grey imports
Compliance status
The vehicle must hold a valid Australian compliance plate. SEVS and RAW compliance are both accepted by specialist lenders, though documentation requirements vary.
Vehicle age
Lenders apply different age limits. Some will finance vehicles up to 20–25 years old for the right marque; others cap at 15 years. We know which lenders are flexible on age for collector and enthusiast vehicles.
Valuation
Grey imports can be difficult to value using standard tools like Glass's Guide. Specialist lenders use alternative valuation methods, including market comparables and specialist appraisals.
Loan-to-value ratio
Lenders may apply a lower LVR to grey imports than to locally delivered vehicles. A deposit or equity contribution can improve your options.
Borrower profile
Your income, credit history, and employment situation are assessed in the usual way. A strong borrower profile opens more lender options.
How it works
Tell us about the vehicle
Share the make, model, year, compliance status, and approximate value. The more detail you have, the faster we can identify suitable lenders.
We identify suitable lenders
We assess your situation and the vehicle against our specialist lender panel. We'll tell you honestly what's available and what the likely terms look like before any application is lodged.
Application and approval
We manage the application process, including any additional documentation the lender requires for a grey import. Typical requirements include compliance documentation, a valuation, and standard income verification.
Settlement
Once approved, we manage settlement with the lender. Whether you're buying privately, through a dealer, or at auction, we'll coordinate the process through to completion.
Common questions
Does the vehicle need to be already in Australia?
Generally yes — lenders want to assess a complied, roadworthy vehicle. If the vehicle is still overseas or in the compliance process, finance is typically arranged once it holds an Australian compliance plate. We can advise on timing.
Can I finance a grey import if I have bad credit?
Specialist lenders who accept grey imports tend to have stricter borrower requirements than mainstream lenders. A strong credit profile improves your options significantly. We can assess your situation honestly before any application is lodged.
Can I use a balloon payment on a grey import?
Yes, in some cases. Balloon payment structures are available through some specialist lenders and can reduce your regular repayments. Whether a balloon is appropriate depends on the lender, the vehicle, and your circumstances.
What if the vehicle is a private sale?
Private sale grey imports can be financed, though the process involves additional steps — particularly around valuation and confirming compliance status. We'll guide you through what's needed.
What about grey import motorcycles?
Yes. JDM and European-spec motorcycles that have been complied for Australian roads can be financed through specialist lenders. The same principles apply — compliance status, age, and valuation are the key factors.
Is this available outside Brisbane?
Yes. We work with clients throughout Queensland and Australia. Everything is handled remotely — phone, email, or video call.
